Our History

Let’s take a brief journey into our community’s history. In 2005, our former Chairman, Justin Agar, established the VRA with a mission to enhance the security of Selbourne Road, Westminster Road, and Victoria Street. At that time, our neighborhood had grappled with elevated crime rates, including two tragic murders and numerous armed robberies. We are immensely proud to report that since the inception of the VRA, crime levels have dramatically decreased. Notably, since the introduction of gated closures in 2009, there have been zero reported incidents of significant criminal activity.

The VRA Committee is dedicated to fostering a close-knit “village feel” within our community. Over the years, we’ve organized various community events, such as the highly successful Halloween Night, where both children and adults dress up and roam the creatively decorated neighborhood in the spirit of the holiday. 

To keep residents informed, VRA operates a community email contact system, expertly managed by our Chairman. This system is complemented by newsletters and two community WhatsApp groups, one focused on security matters and the other an open forum.

The security enhancements, including gated closures and 24-hour manned patrols, were made possible through the generous contributions of residents on Selbourne, Westminster, and Victoria Streets. These measures, which cost tens of thousands of Rands, serve as a robust deterrent against crime.

However, it’s essential to note that they cannot legally restrict access to our community. Your monthly contributions are vital for maintaining our current security standards and ensuring our safety.
